The Kennel Club has issued a press release concerning queries over the entries of a limited number of dogs at this years Crufts.
The release confirms the position of the eventual Reserve Best in Show winner and another dog which took a BOB award.
The release states: At Crufts Dog Show earlier this year, six dogs from Russia whose names did not appear in the catalogue were, as per normal UK show custom and practice, permitted to compete on the day of the show. The entries for these dogs had been handled by the Sobakovoz agency, acting on behalf of several Russian owners. The agency was responsible for entering 26 dogs for the show in total, but while some of the official paperwork for six of these entries did arrive, other paperwork for those exhibits appears not to have been received.
Not in Catalogue
As with all cases where dogs not entered in the catalogue are permitted to be shown on the day of a show, the Kennel Club has made extensive enquiries to check whether or not there was acceptable proof of entry for these dogs.
The matter has been complicated by language and other cross-border problems and the thorough investigation of the issue has therefore been rather long and complex. From all of the evidence now received, it is accepted by the Kennel Club that the Sobakovoz agency undoubtedly intended to enter all 26 dogs albeit that only 20 proper entry forms appear to have reached the Crufts office. The Agency subsequently appears to have taken reasonable steps to ensure that the dogs had been legitimately entered. Under these circumstances there is no justifiable reason why the entries and awards gained by the dogs as listed below, should be prevented from standing and all of the below entries/awards are therefore confirmed.
* 1. Scottish Terrier – Filisite Brash Celebration – 1st Open Dog, Best of Breed Terrier Group 1 & RBIS
* 2. Giant Schnauzer – Gloris Shaking Force – Reserve Limit Bitch
* 3. Giant Schnauzer – Gloris Blue Steel – Not placed
* 4. Miniature Schnauzer - Djakartas Isn’t It – 1st Open Dog & Best of Breed
* 5. Miniature Schnauzer – Gloris X-Mission – 2nd Limit Bitch
* 6. Rhodesian Ridgeback – Charoskloof Gizan Buka – Not placed
Our Dogs comments: Following the ban on Moray Armstrong, one of the connections to the BIS winner at Crufts this year, it would not have looked great for Crufts, the KC or the world of dogs at large to have its Reserve BIS winner from Crufts removed from that position following what appears to be an administrative error on behalf of a Russian agency which assists exhibitors in making entries.
Whether this leads to changes in the future remains to be seen, but clearly a repeat of such a situation would be unacceptable in 2011. In these days of internet access, credit card payments and bank transfers, perhaps it would be better for overseas entries all to be made this way. A direct approach would avoid such problems.
OUR DOGS has received the following letter from the Sobakovoz agency:
The Sobakovoz agency has been in the business of making arrangements and bringing our Russian dog owners to various shows in Europe for over 7 years. 2010 was the first year we decided to come to Crufts. Our group had 26 dogs in it and all entries were sent together. We filled out entry forms for each owner individually, 14 all together and sent the paperwork and payment info (credit card) in two separate e-mails to the Kennel Club on January 15.
Attached please find the list of all entries.(list supplied to OUR DOGS)
Copies of all pedigrees and championship diplomas were sent separately in 5 additional e-mails.
On January 19 Kennel Club London cleared £413 GBR from the credit card.
On January 29 Fosse Data Systems Lim Rugby cleared £101.50 GBR.
We knew that overall sum should be £777 GBR, but were told by the Kennel Club that all dogs were entered and we should not worry.
On February 2 Fosse Data Systems Lim Rugby cleared 84 GBR from the credit card.
Later we received a letter which stated that the following dogs were not entered:
* 1.Bouvier des Flandres - Hit Alivet mon Fidel AJ 01152 RUS
* 2.Scottish Terrier - Filisite Brash Celebration AJ 00603 RUS
* 3.Rhodesian Ridgeback - Karoskloof Gizan Buka AJ 01406 ZAF
* 4.Giant Schnauzer - Gloris Shaking Force AK 01242 RUS
* 5.Giant Schnauzer - Gloris Blue Steel AK 01247 RUS
* 6.Miniature Schnauzer - Gloris X-Mission AK 01250 RUS
However, we were told that if we were able to present all paperwork and printouts of all e-mails as a proof that all dogs were entered at the same time, the Kennel Club would grant the owners the permission to show the dogs and additional payment will be taken off the credit card on a later date. This was done on the first day of Crufts 2010 and all our dogs got handwritten numbers and entry and exit passes.
At the same time we found out that Bouvier des Flandres Hit Alivet mon Fidel AJ 01152 RUS was in fact entered in the catalogue, but as Mit Arivet mon Fidel AJ 01152 RUS, but a Miniature Schnauzer Djakarta's Isn't It AK 01243 SWE was not in the catalogue although we were not informed about it.
As you can see from the list supplied (to OUR DOGS) the missing dogs were in the middle of our list and while several dogs of one owner were entered, others were not. I sincerely hope that this situation will not be repeated and want to thank The Kennel Club for confirming the titles of the Russian dogs who were not included in the catalogue including the Reserve BIS winner at Crufts. However, the remaining sum (178.50 GBR) still has not been cleared from my credit card and I would love to settle this last debt to the Kennel Club as soon as possible.

Olga Proskuryakova - Managing Director of the Russian Kennel Club told OUR DOGS:
The RKF (Russian KC) actively supported the Russian dog owners involved in the Kennel Club investigation in regards to the missing entries at Crufts. We wrote several letters to the Kennel Club in their defense. We feel that if the dogs who were absent from the Crufts catalogue were allowed to compete in the ring, it means that the show committee agreed that the owners presented sufficient proof of entry. We are very pleased that the Kennel Club decided to confirm the titles of Russian dogs that show admirable results in Russia and abroad
