Как выбрать школу или курсы
I wanted to write a post on this topic, but as I was browsing the net in search of relevant information I encountered this article and felt I sucked at being original and witty.

Alternate vs. Alternative
alternate We decided to make alternate arrangements in case the hotel was fully booked. We decided to make alternative arrangements in case the hotel was fully booked.
In British English alternate and alternative have different meanings. alternate = (1) happening in turn, first one then the other: 'alternate periods of sun and rain' (2) every second (day, week, etc): 'Our local football team plays at home on alternate Saturdays.' alternative = that may be used instead of the usual one or the one you had planned to use: 'In view of the roadworks, motorists are advised to use an alternative route.' In American English alternate is used with the same meaning as alternative. P.S. When you pick an alternate route, you have substituted one route for another. If you took an alternative route, you have chosen to travel on that route rather than another. Alternate - one in a series, a substitute for something, occurring or succeeding in turns Alternative - offering or expressing a choice, something that can be chosen The difference is choice. There is no choice with an alternate. You have a choice with an alternative. Here's a heated argument about the word choice.

Dry Wit Battle
This is perhaps the best verbal duel I've ever heard. 1/_Mister West! How nice of you to join us tonight and add colour to these monochromatic proceedings! 2/_Well when a fella comes back from the dead, I find that an occasion to stand up and be counted! 1/_Miss East informs me that you were expectin' to see General McGrath here. Well, I knew him years ago, but I haven't seen him in a coon's age! 2/_Well, I can see where it'd be difficult for a man of your stature to keep in touch with even half the people you know. 1/_Well, perhaps the lovely Miss East will keep you from being a slave to your disappointment! 2/_Well, you know beautiful women, they encourage you one minute, and cut the legs out from under you the next!

Idioms: Ball Park
A Ball Park Figure means an approximate amount, or a rough guess. Use this idiom when you don't know exactly, but have a general idea.
Peter: How much do you think the vacation will cost? Susan: Well, I'm not sure, but just as a ball park, I'd say about two thousand.
Brian: Can you give me a ball park on how much to fix my car? Mechanic: Sure. We have to fix the brakes and there might be some extra parts, so I would say about $500 as a ballpark.
Sally: What's a ballpark on a new computer? Salesman: Probably $2000.00.
Now try some examples yourself:
1) Man: How much for this carpet in my basement? Salesman: _________________________________________________?
2) Wife: ______________________________________________________? Husband: I would say $5,000 as a ballpark.
3) Wife: How much do we need to go to Mexico? Husband: ____________________________________________________?

Pulp Angry (best scene)
I scared my mother once when I recited it in the bathroom. She went like: "Sasha, what the hell's goin' on in there????" The path of the righteous man is beset on all sides by the iniquities of the selfish and the tyranny of evil men. Blessed is he, who in the name of charity and good will, shepherds the weak through the valley of darkness, for he is truly his brother's keeper and the finder of lost children. And I will strike down upon thee with great vengeance and furious anger those who would attempt to poison and destroy my brothers. And you will know my name is the Lord when I lay my vengeance upon thee.

Пост ни о чём
IN A NUTSHELL
If I may venture my opinion, when all is said and done, it would ill become me to suggest that I should come down like a ton of bricks, as large as life and twice as natural, and make a mountain out of a molehill on this issue. From time immemorial, in point of fact, the object of the exercise, as sure as eggs are eggs, has been, first and foremost, to take the bull by the horns and spell it out loud and clear. At the end of the day, the point of the exercise is to tell it like it is, lay it on the line, put it on the table – putting it in a nutshell, drop a bombshell and get down to the nitty-gritty, the bottom line. I think I can honestly say, without fear or favor, that I have left no stone unturned, kept my nose firmly to the grindstone, and stuck to my last, lock stock and barrel, hook line and sinker. This is not to beat about the bush or upset the apple-cart, but to give the green light to the calm before the storm, to hit the nail on the head, to bite the bullet, and thus at the drop of a hat to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat.
That’s it. Take it or leave it. On your own head be it. All good things must come to an end. I must love you and leave you. I kid you not. Don’t call us, we’ll cal you. And I don’t mean maybe.

Phrasal Verb: lay off
One day Mr. Smith, the president of a large corporation, called his vice-president, Dave, into his office and said, "We're making some cutbacks, so either Jack or Barbara will have to be laid off." Dave looked at Mr. Smith and said, "Barbara is my best worker, but Jack has a wife and three kids. I don't know whom to fire." The next morning Dave waited for his employees to arrive. Barbara was the first to come in, so Dave said, "Barbara, I've got a problem. You see, I've got to lay you or Jack off and I don't know what to do?" Barbara replied, "You'd better jack off. I've got a headache."
