Dubai: The police had to rescue a number of children locked and forgotten in their cars by their parents during the Eid holidays, a senior officer said. A new study in rats suggests that removing some bone marrow with a syringe could kick-start rapid self-healing in weakened or fractured bones, if followed up with injections of a bone growth hormone.

At first glance this appears counter-intuitive, says Brendon Noble at the University of Edinburgh, UK, since bone marrow generates the stem cells that would usually help repair bones. However, periosteum cells in the membrane that lines the outside of bones also have regenerative powers.

Bone marrow is also needed to produce new blood cells, but Vignery says that removing it from damaged bones shouldnt affect a persons health, so long as marrow remains in other bones.
Warren Levy of Unigene Laboratories, in Fairfield, New Jersey, which provided Vignerys team with PTH for the study, believes the procedure could radically change the way patients are treated, particularly those with hip fractures. Such fractures often require major surgery, which is expensive and can be life-threatening in elderly patients. Instead, if an X-ray reveals a fracture, you could go in with a needle right there in the doctors suite and do without surgery, Levy says.

This book was one lame plot- a basic but fairly boring chick lit novel- surrounded by literary quotes and references to all kinds of books, the main character, Dora, has read. She is a bibliophile, who book binges when life gets tough. In her separation from a guy that one could rename "Mr. Big" (S and the C) she is spending her money on books, books and more books. She meets a hottie book seller who is walking talking version of the New York Times book review. They greet, meet, and bring on the heat. But the plot is continually being interrupted by one literary quote after another. I feel like Kaufman and Mack got together, wrote down what their favorite books and quotes were and through them in a bowl and every two paragraphs pulled out a quote to stick into their book. Maybe I am being harsh. After a while I thought at least they are assuming people know who Eudora Welty is- then I came across their appendix which lists every single reference to move, book, quote, play or anything that someone might not know, so much for trusting their readers to be readers.
